Intermediate Control Systems Engineer or Technologist for Mining Position – Cariboo Region, BC

Who We’re Looking For

Exceed Electrical Engineering is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Controls Systems Engineer or Technologist with a minimum of 4 years of experience in control systems design, project management, and troubleshooting. This role follows a 14-days-on / 14-days-off rotation supporting one of our mining clients in the BC Cariboo region.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electrical distribution and control systems, particularly Schneider Modicon PLCs (M340, M580), EcoStruxure Control Expert, and Aveva System Platform. Experience with mining processes (flotation) and grinding is considered an asset.

This role involves PLC programming, SCADA system upgrades, and commissioning across all areas of the mine, including tailings ponds, mill systems, and crushers. Regular shifts are 12 hours in duration and up to 16 during shutdowns, including travel to and from lodging. Accommodation, living allowance for meals, and mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use are provided. Overtime is compensated in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.

Your Role at Exceed Electrical Engineering

  • Develop, maintain, and commission PLC programs and SCADA systems
  • Collaborate on projects from initial conceptual design through project closeout
  • Create and revise technical specifications
  • Interpret, troubleshoot, and reverse engineer control schematics and systems
  • Provide technical support to engineers and designers
  • Attend client meetings, record requirements, and ensure clear understanding of project goals
  • Design and test electrical control panels and integrated control systems
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and documentation

What You Bring

  • Education:
  • Engineers: BASc or BEng in Electrical Engineering (P.Eng. or eligible)
  • Technologists: Two-year (or longer) Diploma in Electrical & Computer Engineering Technology or equivalent (ASTTBC registered or eligible)
  • Experience: a minimum of 4 years in electrical and controls systems
  • Technical Skills:
  • PLC programming: Schneider Modicon and Allen Bradley
  • HMI/SCADA: FactoryTalk, Aveva System Platform, InTouch
  • Schneider Modicon architectures: M580, Quantum
  • Virtual Environments (VMware)
  • Networking knowledge (Layer 3 routing, firewalls) considered an asset
  • Hands-on problem-solving mindset with strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to quickly build strong client relationships
  • Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work independently
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and valid passport
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Willingness to meet safety-sensitive pre-employment requirements (alcohol/drug testing, background clearance)
